Background of Marigat Catholic Mission Hospital

Marigat Catholic Mission Dispensary was initiated in 1982 by the Franciscan Missionaries of St. Joseph Sisters, after a needs assessment revealed that medical services were greatly required in the Marigat area. The facility is located in Yatoi Sub-Location, Marigat Location, Marigat Division, Baringo South Sub-County, Baringo County, in the Rift Valley Province, Kenya.

When the facility was initiated, community members travelled long distances to access medical services, leading to unnecessary deaths. The initial structure was a small room used to store drugs and vaccines, with outreach clinics used to reach communities in interior areas — at first, the farthest area reached was about 80 kilometers.

Today, the hospital runs outreach clinics in Baringo North and Baringo South Sub-Counties every Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday, while the static clinic runs Monday through Friday at the facility. The furthest outreach point is 52 km away, the nearest 12 km — covering Biretwonin, Ng'aratuko, Salabani, Lororo/Parkaren, Kailer, Mbechot, Lesamburbur, Sambaka, Chemorongion and Kirim.
